The Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver could be considered the little brother of the massive Walker 1847 Revolver. The 1849 Pocket Revolver's ability to fire five shots without reloading represented a massive leap forward in firearms technology, and paved the way for modern day concealed carry. This easy to hide pistol was a massive success in the civilian market, and was a popular choice for Civil War Officers who wanted a small repeating handgun for personal defense. Even as metallic cartridge firearms became more common, the 1848 Pocket Revolver remained in widespread service up until the 1870s.
