The Taurus's 856 series of revolvers are lightweight, easy to conceal, and offer exceptional reliability. The 856 is available in a wide array of configurations. Many models feature grips made by Altamont, VZ, Viridian, and Hogue to improve the weapon's performance and aesthetics. Other models have been optimized for concealed carry applications. These models include the 856 Ultra-Lite, which utilizes an aluminum frame to cut down on weight, and other concealed carry 856 variations feature rounded edges and a "bobbed" concealed carry hammer to reduce the risk of snagging when the weapon is drawn. The 856 is also available with multiple finish options, such as Tungsten Cerakote, Matte Black, and Matte Stainless Steel °C all of which offer excellent protection from corrosion, scuffing, and the elements.
